The annual KJCCC Football Media Day took place at Century II in Wichita, Kan. on Friday, July 29 and first year Dodge City Community College (DCCC) football Head Coach, Terry Karg took part discussing the upcoming season and Conquistadors team.

The DCCC Conquistadors were selected sixth in the 2022 KJCCC predicted order of finish poll. The poll was as follows: 1. Hutchinson, 2. Garden City, 3. Independence, 4. Coffeyville, 5. Butler. 6. Dodge City, and 7. Highland.

Coach Karg discussed many topics including what drew him to Dodge City, how the program has grown, the makeup of the roster, the upcoming season, and more.

"The institution (Dodge City) was meant to have football. That was something I took with be back to New York and I knew I really wanted the job,” said Coach Karg on the opportunity to coach at DCCC. "After 10 years at Monroe College, I was looking for a new opportunity and a new challenge. Having had a taste what football was like here in the Midwest with postseason and bowl games it made my desire to be a part of it and to be coaching, as a head coach in the Jayhawk Conference.”

The Conquistadors are set to open the 2022 season on Aug. 27 with a road contest against the NJCAA National runner-up, Iowa Western and Coach Karg knows it will be tough competition week in and week out.

"We know it's a tough schedule going in. There are no weeks on a Saturday afternoon where in your mind you have a pretty confident idea that 'hey it's going to be an easy win.’ There are no easy ones," said Karg.

Karg also addressed the progress of the program since he's taken over and how the roster is taking shape for the 2022 season.

"We've had growth in the program in the manner in which we operate, growth academically, socially, and athletically as far as developing our players," said Karg. "We'll be a young football team with about 30 returning players and between 70-75 newcomers. One of the positives with the players in our program we'll have a lot of competition at every position.”

The Dodge City Community College football team are set to commence fall camp soon as student-athletes make their way to campus for the 2022-23 school year this fall. The football season will start on Aug. 27 at Iowa Western and then the Conquistadors will open KJCCC play with their home opener on Sept. 3 against Coffeyville at 7 p.m.
