Dighton Man Arrested after Knife Attack on Sheriff's Deputy

A Dighton, Kan. man was reprimanded to the Finney County Jail after he had allegedly, drunkenly swung a pocketknife at a Lane County Sheriff’s deputy on May 1.
Brent Cecil Barnett, 44, Dighton, Kan. was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), Interference with a LEO, and Walking under the Influence of Alcohol upon a Highway.
At approximately12:40 a.m., Lane County deputies responded to a reported of an intoxicated pedestrian walking in the middle of the highway in the 800 block of E Long St.
A deputy located Barnett, walking in the roadway in an unsafe manner. The deputy conducted a stop to check Barnett's welfare.
During the stop, Barnett became increasingly aggressive and grabbed the deputy.
Barnett began walking away and was told to remove his hands from his pocket multiple times.
Barnett quickly removed a black pocketknife from his pocket and swung it towards the deputy in an aggressive manner.
“A Use of Force incident occurred to safely bring Barnett under control and into custody,” said the Lane County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page.
Both Barnett and the deputy sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries during this incident
