Judd Weil

A 71-year-old Garden City man had to be extricated from his vehicle following a rollover crash on April 1.

At 3:20 p.m. Garden City Police Department (GCPD), Garden City Fire Department (GCFD), and Finney County EMS were dispatched to the 700 block E. Mary Street for a reported rollover accident.

Upon arrival, GCPD officers observed a Chevrolet Malibu on its side with the driver, identified as Antonio Rojas-Lopez, 71, Garden City, Kan. still trapped inside.

Rojas-Lopez was extricated from the vehicle and did not sustain any injuries from the incident.

Investigation revealed Rojas-Lopez was traveling eastbound on Mary Street in the outside lane when an unknown vehicle began to merge into his lane, causing Rojas-Lopez to overcorrect.

The vehicle then struck a transformer box and flipped onto its side. Traffic was diverted in the area for approximately one hour, and the Chevrolet Malibu was towed from the scene due to extensive damage.

The total estimated damage to the transformer box is approximately $10,000.00.
