A Garden City man was arrested for suspected arson and burglary on May 6, following investigations into two fires at the same building.
Enrique Ismael Sanchez, 25, was arrested on requested charges of two counts Arson and two counts Burglary.
At around 5:35 p.m. Garden City Police Department (GCPD), Garden City Fire Department (GCFD), and Finney County EMS were dispatched to a structure fire at the Dusty Trail Inn located at 2808 N. Taylor Plaza.
The Dusty Trail Inn was already a subject of investigation and damaged from a previous fire on April 26.
Upon arrival, first-responders observed large flames coming from the second and third floor on the west side of the building.
Fire crews pulled multiple hand-lines and made entry into the west side of the structure for fire attack.
A primary search was completed on the first, second, and third floors of the structure.
Crews extinguished the fire utilizing interior offensive fire attack methods.
The fire was deemed under control at approximately 6:02 p.m. and GCFD reported no injuries.
In total, one tower, two engines, one brush truck, and four command vehicles responded to fight the fire.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office was notified of the fire and was requested to assist with the investigation.
Through investigation, it was determined the cause of the fire was arson.
During the initial investigation, GCPD located and arrested Sanchez for his alleged involvement in causing the fire.
Through further investigation, it was revealed that Sanchez also allegedly caused the previous fire at the Dusty Trail Inn on April 26.
Sanchez was lodged in the Finney County Jail.
