[FINNEY COUNTY, Kan.]
A Garden City man was involved in a dangerous situation of his own doing on April 18, during a DUI accident that left him trapped in his car with first-responders unable to reach him.
At 12:50 a.m., Garden City Police Department (GCPD), Garden City Fire Department (GCFD), and Finney County EMS were dispatched to the 800 block of E. Fulton Street for an injury accident, involving a vehicle that struck an electric pole.
Upon arrival, GCPD observed a Chrysler Town & Country on its side, with the driver, identified as Vicente Carlos Bribiesca, 34, Garden City still trapped inside.
Bribiesca had struck an electric pole, and first responders were unable to approach the vehicle due to downed wires touching the vehicle.
The City of Garden City Electric Department arrived at the scene to turn off the electricity. Bribiesca was then safely extricated from the vehicle and did not sustain any injuries from the accident.
Through further investigation, it was determined that Bribiesca was suspected of driving under the influence. Bribiesca was taken into custody and lodged in the Finney County Jail for DUI.
The damage at the scene included the electric pole which had to be replaced, power lines, a destroyed utility telephone box, and a stop sign. The estimated loss to property is over $30,000.00.
