UPDATE: Aug. 19, 2022

The Garden City Police Department announced on Aug. 19, the evidence gathered in a homicide case was reviewed by them and the Finney County Attorney’s Office.

"At this time, both the Garden City Police Department and the Finney County Attorney agree the evidence available provides probable cause that the suspect in this matter acted in self-defense, and therefore no arrests should be made, and no charges will be filed," said Garden City Police Department.

Garden City Police Department stated if additional evidence comes to light indicating the homicide was not justified by self-defense, they and the Finney County Attorney will re-evaluate the case to determine if charges should be filed at that time.

A Finney County man died from being stabbed after he allegedly forced his way into a residence on Aug. 18.

Robert Gallardo Molina, 58, Garden City, Kan., was pronounced dead at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Garden City Police Department (GCPD) detained the individual who stabbed Molina.

At 5:30 a.m., GCPD officers were dispatched to the 400 block of E. Santa Fe Street for a reported stabbing.

Molina was found stabbed inside the residence.

According to GCPD, initial investigation determined Molina forced entry into the residence and was involved in an altercation with a man living there when Molina was stabbed.

“The individual has been detained, but no arrest has been made,” stated GCPD in a press release.

The investigation is ongoing.
