Garden Man City Man Arrested for Breaking Into Apartment with Dog

Garden City Police Department (GCPD) arrested a man on burglary charges after he had broken into a woman’s apartment on June 9.


Berny Cantu, 31, Garden City, Kan. was charged with Aggravated Burglary and Criminal Damage.


At around 1:40 a.m., GCPD were dispatched to the 2700 block of Chainey Street for an aggravated burglary-in[1]progress.


The reporting party told officers an unknown man was inside her apartment, and she had locked herself in her bedroom.


Upon arrival, GCPD located Cantu, accompanied by a large dog.


Cantu was taken into custody without further incident, and Cantu’s dog was taken to the Garden City Animal Shelter.


Revealed through further investigation, Cantu allegedly broke into the apartment, took dog food from the residence, and fed it to his dog.


Cantu was lodged in the Finney County Jail.
