Garden City Community College (GCCC) announced on Sept. 19, the Garden City Career Connection Academy (GCCCA) will celebrate 2022 National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week from Sept. 19 to Sept. 23.

The week highlights the success of adult education and celebrates all adult students who have chosen to continue their education. It also seeks to raise public awareness about the need for and value of adult education and family literacy.

Garden City Career Connection Academy is a division of Garden City Community College, and has been offering services through different programs to students for more than 40 years.

Programs include Adult Basic and Secondary Education, Plaza Comunitaria (in partnership with the Mexican Consulate), GED, English as a Second Language (ESL), Transition to College (PSE), Employability Skills, and Computer Skills courses.

GCCCA serves about 500 students annually from different backgrounds and cultures including about 30 different languages/dialects.

Adult Education can help to build a solid career and it helps adults to keep up with the changing times. Education is a life-long journey and one of the major characteristics of education is that it has no age.

“GCCCA also wants to thank all educators that work hard in this field, those that put passion and compassion into this duty, and who understand the needs of adult learners,” said GCCC in a release.

In celebration of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, GCCCA is hosting a family literacy event for its students on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Garden City Community College.

Family reading time, a family arts and crafts project, and family-oriented games will be available.
