For the first time since the 2019 season, the #19 Dodge City men's soccer has earned a win over a ranked opponent as they dispatched #12 Barton 4-2.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in KJCCC continuing their best start in school history, while also making it three wins in a row in the series with Barton.
After seeing Barton control the possession and pace early in the first half the Conqs struck first on the scoreboard as Janik Buch scored his third goal of the season with Juan Ballesta getting the assist. The lead grew for the Conqs throughout the first half as Andres Rocha tallied a goal and Pedro Schafer da Silva finished a cross for his first career goal. Jose Holguin and Rocha recorded assists on the goals and the Conqs led 3-0 entering halftime. Diego Marcelino Olivares pushed the Conqs lead to 4-0 in the 59th minute with his third goal of the season. Barton didn't go away but wouldn't get on the board until late with a goal in the 83rd minute and then got a penalty kick as time expired that made the final score 4-2.
Conqs would outshoot Barton 15-9 and 8-5 in shots on goal in the win and continued to spread the scoring around as four different Conqs scored with goals from Buch, Rocha, Schafer da Silva, and Olivares.
A tough week for the Conqs continues as they hit the road for another Top 20 KJCCC clash on Saturday, September 10th as they take on #17 Coffeyville at 1:00 pm.
