For the fourth time in five seasons under Head Coach, Oscar Zelaya the Dodge City men's soccer team posted a winning record as they finished 8-6 last year.
The Conquistadors finished second in the KJCCC Division West standings and earned a home playoff match for the first time since 2014. The Conqs are picked third in the KJCCC West Predicted Order of Finish poll for the 2022 season.
Coach Zelaya heads into the 2022 season with a strong group of returners, partnered with several newcomers some of whom transferred to Dodge in the spring, and got a full offseason with the team. One of the key returners will be Yanis Debbarh who earned second-team All-KJCCC honors last year after playing in 10 matches with 11 starts recording two goals and four assists.
Six other Conqs are back who tallied at least one goal last season. Janik Buch, Marlon Lopez, and Bastien Dechamps each had two goals last season and all three played in 11 or more matches during the season. Gaetan Francois, Diego Marcelino Olivares, and Christopher Velez all return with goals to their name from last year. Francois in five matches tallied a goal, while Velez in limited action posted five goals in an outburst performance against Oklahoma Panhandle JV, and Olivares played in 11 matches recording a game-winning overtime goal against Barton and three assists on the season.
Juan Susa Cortes and Ryui Akiyama both return after playing in at least eight matches last season giving the Conqs more experience to build upon. Multiple other players return for the Conqs who trained with the team last year in either the fall or spring but did not play in the 2021 season.
Conqs will open the 2022 season on the road with a non-conference tilt against Tabor JV on Saturday, August 20th at 3:00 pm. The first home contest of the season for the Conqs will be Wednesday, August 24th against Northeastern at 3:00 pm, and then will host Southeast on August 27th. Also, in non-conference play, the Conqs will have a pair of contests in Dallas in early September and are set to host McPherson JV and Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa. Conference play opens for the Conqs on Wednesday, August 31st against Cowley at home. The conference slate includes home-and-home contests with the West Division schools including Cowley, Barton, and Garden City, with single contests against the East division schools taking on Johnson County and Neosho County at home, along with road matchups against KCK and Coffeyville. The regular season will wrap up for the Conqs against Garden City on the road on Wednesday, October 19th.
All Conq home soccer matches are free to attend and are played at Memorial Stadium.
