Men's Soccer Splits Pair of Non-Conference Games in Texas

Dodge City men's soccer team hit the road traveling to Texas for a pair of non-conference showdowns and would take on the NJCAA Division III four-time defending National Champions, Richland along with facing off with Mountain View.

The Conquistadors would head home with a split of the two contests dropping a highly contested 2-0 decision against Richland before bouncing back against Mountain View as they would win in convincing fashion 14-2. The split moves the Conqs to 4-1 on the season.

The trip to Dallas opened for the Conqs against a high-caliber opponent in Richland the game was a battle. The contest remained scoreless into halftime and up until 10 minutes into the second half when Richland tallied the first goal of the match to take the advantage. Ultimately Richland would add another to give them the 2-0 win over the Conqs. In the loss, the Conqs were outshot 16-9 and only had three shots on goal, while Erik Zalaya in goal despite surrendering a pair of goals has seven saves.

Wrapping up the trip to Texas the Conqs took on Mountain View and would have a scoring party netting 14 goals just two off the single-game school record set back in 2011 of 16 goals against Lamar.

The scoring opened in the tenth minute of the contest when Marlon Lopez found Bastien Dechamps who finished the pass-off to make it 1-0 Conqs. Mountain View had the equalizer in the 13th minute to tie the match up at 1-1 but that didn't last long as the Conqs one minute later regained the lead on a Janik Buch goal. Lopez would net a pair of goals for the Conqs and Gaetan Francois chipped in another and the Conqs led 5-1 at halftime. The lead continued to grow in the second half as the Conqs opened the scoring with Lopez finding Aaron Melgar for the team's sixth goal of the contest. Mountain View would tally their second goal of the match in the 55th minute but the Conqs did the rest of the scoring with eight more goals as Melgar and Francois each recorded their second of the match, Alan Salamanca, Jose Holguin, Moctar Bathily, and Andres Rocha each netted a goal and Juan Ballesta would tally a pair of goals.

Conqs control the contest outshooting Mountain View 27-12 in the victory. Lopez paced the Conqs with two goals and two assists, while Melgar, Francois, and Ballesta each had a two-goal day. The Conqs had nine assists overall with Yanis Debbarh recording two. Erik Zalaya and Tommaso Cantini each saw action in goal both making a save in the win.

The Conqs will finally open up KJCCC play when they take the field for their next contest as they are set to host Barton on Wednesday, September 7th at 5:00 pm.
