Stolen Vehicle initiates Cross County Pursuit

A cross county pursuit beginning in Garden City in Finney County and ended in Haskell County led to one arrest on July 1.
Richard Johnston, 39, was arrested on charges of felony flee and elude, felony interference LEO, and felony theft.
At around 3:25 p.m., Garden City Police Department officers were dispatched to Fulton Convenience located at 601 E. Fulton Street for a recent auto theft. Officers learned a Dodge Grand Caravan was taken from the property.
A Finney County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the vehicle near US Highway 83 and E. Schulman Avenue and attempted a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as Richard Johnston, transient, refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. An officer was at the intersection of US Highway 83 and E. Spruce Street and assisted in the pursuit.
The pursuit traveled south on US Highway 83 into Haskell County before stopping along Haskell County Road 140.
Johnston was taken into custody without further incident. The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Haskell County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the pursuit.
Johnston was lodged in the Finney County Jail.
