Suspected Influenced Driver Crashes into House

A Garden City man was arrested following a DUI accident that resulted in the vehicle he was operating crashing through a private residence on May 23.
Alexis Ortiz, 23, was charged with DUI, Transportation of an Open Container, Possession of Marijuana, and Tampering with Ignition Interlock.
At 1:30 a.m., Garden City Police Department (GCPD) officers were dispatched to an injury accident in the 900 block of Jenny Ave., where a vehicle struck a residence.
Upon arrival, GCPD observed a Honda CR-V had struck the west side of a residence.
Officers located the driver, identified as Ortiz, Garden City, Kan., sitting in the vehicle.
Ortiz was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The vehicle was removed from inside the residence and towed from the scene.
The homeowner was inside the residence at the time of the accident but was not injured, according to GCPD.
Through further investigation, it was determined that Ortiz was suspected of driving under the influence. Ortiz was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail.
The west side of the residence was assessed for damage and deemed unlivable, with total estimated damage at $30,000.00.
