Volleyball Posts 4-0 Performance at Trinidad State Tournament

Dodge city volleyball team traveled to Trinidad, Colorado, and posted a 4-0 weekend at the Trinidad State Tournament to move to 5-2 on the season.


The Conquistadors opened the tournament on Friday with a four-set win over Casper (WY) 25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22 and capped Friday with another four-set win beating Otero 25-12, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16. On Saturday the Conqs took on the host of the tournament Trinidad State and earned a straight set sweep in match 25-21, 25-16, 25-15. To finish out the tournament the Conqs dispatched Clarendon in four sets claiming the win 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18.


To open the tournament the Conqs would take on Casper and work to a two-sets to-none lead in the match but would drop the third set forcing a fourth set where the Conqs fended off Casper to earn the win. Ozge Tan once again led the team in kills recording 18 while adding 16 digs for a double-double and chipped in four aces. Martyna Kmuk notched 15 kills adding six digs and a block, while Oliwia Durka tallied 12 kills and had a double-double with 11 digs while adding an ace and a block. Nur Yaren Turkmenolgu had a strong match as she posted 48 assists to steer the offense along, while also adding nine digs, six aces, and four kills. Alannah Lozoya from her libero position recorded 14 digs and had three assists.


In the second match of the tournament, Conqs would dominate the first set against Otero and then take a tight second set. After dropping the third set the Conqs grabbed control of the fourth set quickly and earned the win. Kmuk's 12 kills paced the Conqs offense, while seven different ladies had at least two kills each in the win. Tan finished with eight kills and 12 digs, while Turkmen had 25 assists and Lozoya posted 10 digs.


Day two saw the Conqs make quick work of the tournament host earning the three-set sweep of Trinidad State. Tan registered 16 kills in the win with seven digs, two aces, a block, and two block assists. Turkmen once again continued to orchestra the offense recording 34 assists while adding two aces and four digs. Lozoya led the team defensively with 16 digs in the win.


To wrap up the tournament the Conqs took down Clarendon winning the first two sets but dropping a tight third set before closing the match out in the fourth set. For the second time in the tournament, Tan registered 18 kills and led the team once again and had another double-double with 12 digs, while adding three aces. Kmuk chipped in 16 kills with Durka adding nine kills and nine digs herself. Turkmen once more left her imprint all over the match finishing with 41 assists, six kills, 15 digs, and two aces. Jatnna Pena had her best performance as a Conq finishing with 21 digs.


Up next the Conqs get back to conference play as they continue to be on the road early in the season when they square off with Garden City on Wednesday, August 31st at 6:30 pm.
