Dodge City volleyball played host to North Platte for a non-conference doubleheader on Friday and picked up wins number seven and eight on the season with a pair of three-set sweeps of the Knights.
Conquistadors captured the first match in three sets 25-21, 25-16, 25-22, and then followed that up with another straight set win 26-24, 26-24, 25-20. The wins move the Conqs to 8-3 on the season.
The first match of the afternoon saw a tight first set mostly throughout the set with the Conqs working to a three-point lead midway through it and using that to win the set 25-21. After a 3-0 start to the second set, North Platte would snag an 8-7 lead, but the Conqs countered and went on a 6-1 run to take a 13-9 advantage. Conqs used that advantage to control the second set and win it 25-16. The third set opened with a 6-0 run by the Conqs which included four-straight aces by Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu to start the set and five aces by Turkmenolgu in the first six points. North Platte drew within one in the third set twice, but the Conqs finished it off 25-22 to take the match.
Martyna Kmuk paced the Conqs offensively with 12 kills, while Ozge Tan added nine, and both J'Carra Mitchell and Oliwia Durka each tallied five kills. Turkmenolgu finished the match with 36 assists and added four kills, along with six aces. Jatnna Pena tallied 11 digs as the libero.
The second match of the day between the Conqs and the Knights was tight in all three sets but ultimately another three-set win for the Conqs. Set one saw the Conqs fall behind 8-3 to North Platte but battled back to tie the set at 12-12 after a Kmuk kill and Turkmenolgu ace and then snagged their first lead of the set at 13-12. The set was tight the rest of the way going to extra points with the Conqs taking it 26-24. The second set saw North Platte take an early lead again going up 5-1 but once more the Conqs fought back to tie it and fended off set point three times and took the second set 26-24. The Conqs established the early advantage in the third set working to a 17-7 lead and would use that to take the set 25-20 and win the match.
Tan recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs, while Durka led the team in kills in the match with 14. Kmuk once again had double-figure kills finishing with 11. Turkmenoglu finished with 40 assists while adding four kills and three digs, while Pena tallied 18 digs at libero.
