For the first time since 2017 the Dodge City women's soccer program has won their season opener as they claimed a 3-0 win over Southeast to open the 2022 season.
Eager to get the season rolling the Conquistadors would pick up their pace throughout the first half and ultimately outshot Southeast 8-2 in the first half on the way to a 1-0 lead at intermission. The lead came to the Conqs early in the contests just 7:37 into the contest as Laura Gomez tallied the first goal of the season on a pass from Yui Fujii.
Conqs would control the game even more in the second half getting multiple looks at the goal and netting two more goals on 11 shots. In the 56th minute Fujii took a free kick for the Conqs and opted to send it to the goal and recorded her first goal to make it 2-0. Then in the 70th minute the Conqs earned a penalty kick opportunity and Gomez would hit it off the cross bar and spin it in for her second goal ultimately pushing the Conqs to a 3-0 win.
In the match the Conqs would outshot Southeast 19-3 in the contest while in goal Joelle Brand earned the win making one save in 72:27 minutes played. Casandra Enriquez would finish the match in goal for the Conqs.
